Yes and we are working hard
Mondays we have our weekly meetings at the hostel. Last week the local weekly came by for an interview, which you can see here (in Danish). We all participated in the interview and since we all know the journalist, it was quite fun.
This week we also signed a contract with our new tenant. The local Café Tankefryd will take over. Meaning they will get all the daily tasks – bookings, cleaning, breakfast, etc.
The interest for accomodation has been overwhelming. By the end of this week we will have beds in every room + some extras. Today a dance company arrived. All dancers are +60 years old and will perform later this week at our theatre.
Even though the hostel is not officially up and running, we have had many business customers from India, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Argentina, France, Spain… This means we can deliver a healthy business to the tenant.
The hostel has been run down by the previous tenants. Furthermore they removed everything inside, leaving us with nothing. So we have had to start from scratch, which has been very difficult with no money. But, fortunately the local businesses have donated furniture and we have made a perfect B2B agreement with the local furniture dealer.
We have divided the whole thing into two separate businesses. One, a company that owns the plot, buildings and holds the financial responsibilities. The other “business”, is an association which will run the activities in the part that will hold the Citizens´House – the old hospital building.
The first one – our company – goes really well by now. Since we are not paid anything (we do all this voluntarily) and do not have any expenses on salary etc. everything we earn can – and will – be reinvested in restoration.
Next thing is to find housing for all the small clubs and associations in town. They desperately need a place where they can keep their stuff and have their meetings and club evenings.
We also need more internet in the other two buildings and start up restoration of the old hospital building. We have several flats, that need to be ready for new guests soon.
