It hasn’t been raining for over a month now. Actually it’s more than a month, the last real rain we’ve got was in mid April.
The farmers are anxiously watering the fields. Thus part of Denmark is very sandy, we mainly grow potatoes and corn here.
The lawns are yellow and dry, the grass and wild flowers in the roadsides are withering, camp fires and barbecuing are no longer allowed in open nature. We’ve already had the first wild fires on the moors and it takes days to put out a fire in dry peat and turf.
It looks like a bit of rain will fall by Saturday, but only 3-5 mm, which is equal to nothing. Next week will less warm, but still without any rain and still lots of sun and no clouds.
We are so lucky we have our own well in the garden. Unfiltered water, directly from the underground. Full of ochre and it smells a bit foul, but the lawn and flower beds don’t care.
The stream flows in our backyard and some of our neighbours use a submersible pump to water their gardens.
Meanwhile while my garden is still a small oasis, the countryside has begun to suffer.
