Dare we believe spring is just around the corner?
It´s one of those Saturdays. One of the good ones. Kids are still asleep, husband just went to the annual indoor football tournament, where local companies compeat all day. Maybe I´ll go to see them later.
The sun is just about to break though the clouds. Birds are all singing their heads off. All the small twigs on the lawn will disappear sooner or later, used in nests. When we still had our cat, I used to comb her outside and leave the hairs on the lawn. They were immediately picked up and used for nest building too.
I woke up early, but hardly any pain in my back, so I decided to go back to sleep, and didn´t get up until 8am. A cup of tea and a short walk round the garden.
We are still in February, winter can still come as a cold surprise. But I´m optimistic.
My fingers itch for sowing and planting
Yesterday I started repotting my indoor plants. The needed new soil and some new, larger pots so badly. Since it´s still too cold to do it in the greenhouse, I made the mess in the kitchen.
Today I´m up for sowing tomatoes – three different kinds – and melons. I always wanted to try to grow melons. I found this French Charentais melon on the net and bought five seeds. My idea is to re-do my old small greenhouse and have a few plants there. If they all sprout, I´ll give the rest to someone or just let them grow on the compost. At least their large net of roots will do a good job there.
I have a Snapchat friend and we exchange snaps of our latest seed bargains, sprouting potatoes and stuff. It´s quite a lot of fun to see what other garden freaks like me are up to.
I also sowed liquorice yesterday. The seeds had to lie in water for a day and they actually tripled their size. Now the pot is in the livingroom window, above a radiator and I´ll just have to wait patiently to see whats coming up. I planted some seeds last year, they came up fine, however they don´t look like liquorice on the leaves. So, now I´ll have to wait to compare.
