The – in Denmark – famous writer Dan Turèll (1946-1993) – wrote a poem about everyday (hverdag in danish). The poem is an ode to the daily routines, that are just part of everyday life.
I like the everyday life too. It’s great to be away, a week or two either on vacation or work related. But it’s always great to be home again!
A lot of people hate the everyday, it’s stressy and boring. Well, get up the magically 15 minutes earlier, then there’s no stress only rush, and being in a hurry is not stressful. Plan ahead, plan tomorrow’s dinner today, make double portions and freeze half for a busy day. Buy groceries once or twice a week.
Boring everyday, hmm I guess that’s up to you what you make of it. Put the phone away, be present and talk with your children and spouse. Routines are there to help us and gives us extra time for the fun stuff, a little break in the everyday. Time for reading a chapter in a book or helping the kids with their homework, while dinner is on the stove and the washing machine is running. Hear a podcast while hanging the clothes to dry or even better; rip the kids away from their phones and computers and make them help. Then work only takes half the time.
Anyway, I’ve always learned that boredom is good. It releases energy and creativity.
I like my everyday, every day. I don’t love it, but even now being unemployed, I have daily routines. I still plan tomorrow’s dinner today and check next week’s calendar on Sunday.
In a week we are all back to our everyday, my husband got back to work today and the kids are either at work too or doing summer football camp. Next week school begins again – and we are all looking forward to getting back to our everyday.
