A good start into a new week
It´s Monday again. another Monday with the usual chores. Checking job ads, logging into the job centre system, meeting at The Old Hospital an so on…
There are plenty of chores, so I guess my week will be busy as usual.
The weekend was windy – close to storm and a lot of dead twigs and leaves came off the trees. My husband and I decided to dig up the vegetable garden. We´ve hardly had any real winter, and all the weed has been growing continously. Also the strawberries have grown, sending runners out everywhere. Last year we planted 25 plants and they´ve turned into over 200 by now. Even though I kept the vegetable garden nice all summer, the strawberries were quicker than me.
Now it was time for revenge. It turned out last year that I didn´t get what I paid for. I bought strawberry plants with large pink flowers and large berries. What I got, was something that looks like wild strawberries…
We dug up everything, spending more than three hours digging and going through the soil to find even tiny roots and runners. In two or three weeks time, we´ll have to do the same again, however I hope our effort this weekend pays out.
Next thing will be to find a nice new strawberry variety, that really gives nice large berries full of taste.
The chilies that I kept in the window sill all winter, were also planted in larger pots and placed in the green house. The boys were outside playing football yesterday having a lot of fun and enjoying the good weather between the heavy showers. This morning however, I found the door to the green house open and the chilies more dead than alive, due to the exposure to frost last night. I´ve decided not to be mad about it, however it could be a year´s work completely lost.
The birds are in a terrific mood after the weekend. The harsh gust winds have finally stopped. The birds can fly high again after having been forced to fly low and between the trees all weekend.
